For someone who sees the potential, this early 20th-century detached property offers hardwood floors, a retro kitchen and bathroom, and modern solar panels. Located in Canarsie at 966 East 94th Street, the listing says the single-family home has new plumbing and a “fairly new” roof, but there are still plenty of projects a new owner can tackle.

Historic maps seem to show the frame house was built between 1920 and 1929. Unfortunately, no 1940 tax photo of the house is available, but there is a view of the house next door, which has the same gabled silhouette with an enclosed porch. The same image also shows part of the original entrance of No. 966. A four-story apartment building was constructed down the street in 1928, but most of the block is still filled with detached frame houses.

This 16-foot-wide home has living, dining and kitchen areas on the main level and three bedrooms and a full bath above. There are hardwood floors in most of the main rooms. In addition to its side window, the living room has a narrow interior opening to let in light from the adjacent porch. This enclosed area was originally a sunroom with a wide door to the living room; restoration could make the floor plan flow again and add light and air.

At the rear of the ground floor, the kitchen is vintage-style and still has a yellow Chambers stove. There are wooden cabinets and Formica countertops with metal trim. A rear veranda with a window leads to a terrace.

Upstairs, the master bedroom is the only one with closets, according to the floor plan. The full bath still has the blue fixtures, including the console sink with metal legs.

While the listing details address the electrical and roof, it might be worth looking at a dark area on the siding and another in the unfinished basement in the photos. The floor plan shows a second bathroom in the basement, but it is not pictured.

The front yard is paved, but the description doesn’t mention parking; the curb cut appears to be for the house next door. A creative eye could perhaps add greenery to the front yard, but there is green space to the rear as well.

The house last sold in 2014 for $348,000. It’s listed with Veronica Robinson of Top Nest Inc. and is now for sale for $649,000. What do you think?
