Meghan Markle’s recent salsa dancing escapades in Colombia sent the internet into a frenzy, not only because of the impressive moves, but also thanks to an old photo shared by one of her college classmates.

The graceful Duchess of Sussex has been enchanting fans with her salsa moves both on and off the dance floor during her recent visit to South America. But there’s one college photo of her that’s grabbing attention and adding an endearing twist to her dance story.

On August 17, Iris Amador, reportedly a former classmate of Meghan’s at Northwestern University, shared an old photo of the Duchess on social media. The photo dates back to the duo’s college days and shows Meghan wearing a black turtleneck and jeans while attending a salsa class.

Meghan graduated from Northwestern University in 2003 with a double major in theater and international studies. The photo shows her in college before she became, it is believed, a global icon. The photo proves that she was a passionate lover of dance from a young age.

The outfit is notable as it is reportedly similar to what she wore in a 2021 Christmas card photo with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

In her Instagram post, Amador, who graduated from Northwestern University in 2002, fondly recalled their salsa lessons together. “Salsa lessons with the then future #DuchessOfSussex, in college,” she wrote, attaching the photo. The caption in Spanish, translated into English, read: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visit Colombia, including #Cali, the world capital of salsa – music and dance that Meghan Markle loves and with whom we had salsa lessons at university.” The nostalgia in her words reflects a deep appreciation for the years spent together and the skills Meghan brought to her public life.

This throwback photo posted by Amador gives a very sweet glimpse into Meghan’s salsa days, but also shows that her passions and talents were unwavering back then. From salsa classes in college to the elegant dance steps in Colombia, Meghan Markle’s journey has been very interesting and full of inspiration.
