Standings Presidents Cup 2024 – The 2024 edition of the Presidents Cup is scheduled to take place at the Royal Montreal Golf Club from September 26 to 29. The Royal Montreal previously hosted the event in 2007 and will be the second international venue to host the event more than once, after the Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Melbourne, Australia. The 2022 Presidents Cup was hosted by the Quail Hollow Club in North Carolina, and the 2026 edition is scheduled to be hosted by the Medinah Country Club (No. 3 course) in Chicagoland. Canada hosts the prestigious golf tournament and is the international host of the event, which alternates between the United States and an international country.

Each team will consist of six automatically qualified players and the remaining spots will be filled by captain’s selections of Jim Furyk for the US team and Mike Weir for the international team.

Mike Weir mentioned that the front nine holes at Royal Montreal will offer more scoring opportunities, while the back nine will feature a few more challenging holes. According to Andrew Harvie, a Canadian golf architecture expert, the Blue Course at Royal Montreal, designed by Dick Wilson and modified by Rees Jones for the 2007 Presidents Cup, represents an era of golf course architecture that emphasized precision and accuracy. Harvie explained that the front nine holes punish mistakes, while the back nine entices players to take control of the game, making it a good test of match play. He also stressed the importance of the final section of the course (holes 15-18) in creating an intense and exciting atmosphere.

In contrast to the American team, Weir mentioned that he had fewer guaranteed players for his Presidents Cup team and expressed his increased focus on the Ryder Cup. He acknowledged that the players on the US team were talented and would play well, and stressed that exceptional performances would be needed to win the tournament.

Each team will select its six automatically qualified players based on different criteria. For the U.S. team, players will receive qualification points based on a weighted FedExCup points system calculated between January 1, 2023 and August 24, 2024. The top six players on the points list after the 2024 BMW Championship this week will receive a spot on the U.S. team.

The international team, on the other hand, will use the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) to determine its six automatic qualifiers. This system ensures that the best players are selected based on their performance in various tournaments. OWGR points awarded up until the 2024 BMW Championship will be taken into account; there is no specific time period for points to be accumulated.
