A 39-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and taken to hospital with critical injuries.

Forensic officers were on site on Wednesday and about 100 meters of the road remained cordoned off.

Flowers were left at the crime scene. One bouquet read: “I love you all, the whole world and more. I will miss you forever. I miss you, my beautiful angels.”

“This is an absolutely devastating incident in which three children and a woman have lost their lives,” said Detective Chief Inspector Stacey Atkinson.

“Our thoughts are with her family, friends and loved ones. Initial investigations have shown that the fire was deliberately set and we have arrested a man on suspicion of murder.”

“He is in hospital today seriously ill due to injuries caused by the fire.”

“Although our investigation is still at an early stage, we currently believe this to be a domestic incident,” added DCI Atkinson.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the family and we are working with local neighbourhood officers to investigate and ensure safety in the area.”

Police are asking anyone with information, such as videos of the doorbell, to come forward.
