Over the past few weeks, Ibiza ravers have been puzzling over some strange UFO sightings, with a TikTok post on July 31 seeming to suggest that ET was ready to crash and party.

Luckily, the little green men are (probably) not going to invade the island any time soon. In fact, they are just a publicity stunt for Ibiza’s new hyperclub (UNVRS), which has met with some disapproval among dance music fans.

The truth has come to light thanks to Will Smith – yes, actor and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Will Smith. In a new video, Smith pays tribute to his Men in Black roots and bravely set out to hunt for the UFO. “I feel an obligation to investigate,” Smith insists as he “nervously” explores a construction site and climbs a scaffold. Of course, the X-Files-like case is quickly solved. Up on a platform, Smith meets Night League CEO and founder Yann Pissenem – who immediately welcomes him to (UNVRS).

“This campaign was truly out of this world,” says Pissenem, who also owns Ibiaz clubs Hï and Ushuaïa. “Now that the truth has come out, we can’t wait to welcome everyone to our new universe in 2025 when we open the world’s first hyperclub.”

(UNVRS) won’t open until 2025, but the venue promises to raise the bar by offering a “high-end luxury hyperclub” that will achieve “the scale and sophistication of arena events.”

Keen-eyed ravers will also recognise the location as the home of the popular Privilege. The 10,000-capacity nightclub was forced to close its doors in 2018 after its licence was revoked due to unlawful structural alterations. (UNVRS) will rise from its ashes and hope to offer a revolutionary new clubbing experience.

However, many people are not happy about the new hyperclub. Ravers have been quick to note that a “high-end luxury” experience will likely cost a pretty penny. In an Instagram post announcing the news, one user jokes: “How much is a bottle of water there? €50?”

Another comment reads: “Yet another club for rich people where music culture/quality doesn’t matter and the same old DJs are hired to increase their DJ fees while explaining in interviews how much they care about the scene.” Another announcement is just as critical. “Seems like a sophisticated version of ‘another overpriced club for influencers and rich people,'” one person notes.

For most Ibiza ravers, a VIP experience is not what they are looking for. Reddit notes that “top-notch service, luxury and attention” are buzzwords that should warn clubbers to “stay the hell away from this.”

The comments under the official YouTube video are also angry. “The spirit of the hippies of the 70s who came to Ibiza wanted to escape the realm of money, materialism and superficiality,” writes one user. “Yann, you haven’t understood anything.”
