“I can throw far”: Big League pitcher from Butler wants to become quarterback of the Colts
Ryan Pepiot has one main job: He is a starting pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays.
But he has a plan B – the quarterback of the Indianapolis Colts.
The 27-year-old (as of August 21), a former baseball player at Butler University and Westfield High School, answered a few quick questions from Rays reporter Tricia Whitaker (a former Indianapolis sports reporter), including: “What job would you want if you weren’t a major league pitcher?”
“NFL quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts,” he said without hesitation. “A little experience and I can throw the ball pretty well.”
Then he added: “Precision and spiral, not always 100 percent, but I can throw far.”
He then threw a pass to Whitaker, but it was more of a block, so Anthony Richardson probably won’t have much competition from Pepiot.
The right-hander is 6-5 with a 3.69 ERA in 18 starts this season. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Pepiot in the third round of the 2019 Major League Draft, and this is his third season in the major leagues.
He played quarterback at Westfield.
