BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WDTV) – Clouds lingered a little longer than expected today, making temperatures even colder than they already were. Clarksburg reached a high of just 69 degrees today, making it the first day below 70 degrees since May 12. Tonight, pretty much all areas will be in the 40s (lower 40s in the mountains, higher 40s in the lowlands), which could break some records for lowest temperatures. However, if cloud cover stays thick a little longer into the night, those records are likely secured. Highs on Wednesday will be a little warmer (mid-70s in the lowlands, mid- to upper 60s in the mountains), but still cool for the season. Another potentially record-breaking morning is expected on Thursday, with similar 40-degree temperatures throughout the area. From then on, each day and night will be a few degrees warmer than the last. By the weekend, some lowlands could reach 90 degrees. If that mark is not reached by the weekend, it will certainly be reached early next week. No precipitation is expected during this time as a strong high pressure system will remain in control of us, at least until early next week. The high pressure system will keep us dry in terms of both precipitation and humidity. Drought conditions will likely worsen as a result.
