A 30-year-old painter died tragically fell to his death from the 49th floor of a building under renovation in Sukhumvit Soi 64/2 in Bangkok. The incident occurred yesterday, August 20, at 2:30 p.m. and led to immediate police intervention.

Police Lieutenant Somphob Khemakanok of Phra Khanong Police Station received the report of the fatal fall. When they arrived at the scene, they found the body of 30-year-old Lao national Saya Le Sian lying face down in a garden next to the building. His body had been badly injured by the fall.

Saya, who worked as a painter, had just descended from the 49th floor to paint the building’s exterior when the accident occurred. The investigation found that the safety rope he was using had probably shifted due to carelessness, leading to his fatal fall.

An eyewitness reported that Saya had secured himself with a safety harness before starting work, but as he maneuvered along the side of the building, the rope appeared to come loose or move unexpectedly, leading to the fatal fall, the eyewitness said.

“It appears that the safety equipment did not perform as expected. This tragic accident underscores the importance of strict safety measures in high-risk jobs.”

Police have contacted the Lao embassy to inform Saya’s family and arrange for his body to be transported to Laos for burial ceremony. The building, which is currently being renovated, will likely undergo a thorough safety inspection to prevent future accidents, a police spokesman said.

“The safety of all workers on site is our top priority. We will fully cooperate with the investigation to find out what went wrong and take steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.”

The investigation is ongoing as police attempt to reconstruct the exact sequence of events and determine whether any security breaches occurred, KhaoSod reported.
