Networks absorb the “ecstasy” of the “dance party”

ABC, CBS and NBC were at their best on the second night of the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, getting swept up in the “ecstasy” of the “dance party” that took place during the rigged roll call for Vice President Kamala Harris’ nomination, dropping their facade of objectivity as they lost themselves in the nirvana of being surrounded by people they agreed with politically.

ABC’s chief national correspondent Terry Moran was the worst. Moran seemed to be taken aback by the presenter David Muir, who called him in for analysis. He was lost for words and stammered for a moment before expressing his admiration for “Just the ecstasy that just happened.”

Moran fondly recalled the list of Democratic delegates and called it “the best party” he had been to in “a while”:

I have seen many appeals, but I have never seen anything like this. I tell you, it was the best party I’ve been to in a long time, but I don’t go to many parties. It was the best party they had. And the importance of this lies in the energy they need to fight.

I’ve talked to a lot of delegates and they all say the same thing: “Yes, this is a great time, but we need to get back in the trenches and take this to the field, raise money to win. What they know is that the election is going to be hard fought.”

Just before Moran had to be jolted out of his daze, ABC’s senior congressional correspondent Rachel Scott called out the names of the “really a dance party!”

“I can tell you that. Lil Jon came down this hallway just before our show, David! It turned into a real dance party here on the convention grounds.” she boasted.

At CBS, presenter Norah O’Donnell was also enthusiastic about the festivities:

But Democrats aren’t satisfied with just one party. Tonight they’re having two parties! The other party is in Wisconsin. And that’s where the White House chief correspondent, Weijia Jiang, is tonight. She’s traveling with the vice president because there’s another big rally there.

“Norah, we are 90 miles away from you in Chicago, but “The electricity and energy you are talking about, we can feel in this room on the grounds here in Milwaukee,” “And these bracelets shine brightly here too.”

Like a moth to a flame, Peter Alexander, NBC’s chief White House correspondent, couldn’t take his eyes off the shiny bracelets. “It wasn’t just the electricity that impressed me; almost everything here runs on batteries. They were all wearing these Taylor Swift-style glowing bracelets,” he praised.

RACHEL SCOTT: It was a real dance party! I can tell you that. Right before we went on the air, Lil Jon came down this hallway, David! It turned into a real dance party here on the convention grounds.

And it was really a sigh of relief for the delegates and so many Democrats who were worried after President Biden dropped out of the race about whether or not the party would unite behind Vice President Kamala Harris. But that’s exactly what’s happening here tonight, David.

DAVID MUIR: Rachel Scott, thank you. We’ll be in touch later this evening. Terry Moran is here too. Terry, what do you think about that from your perspective?

TERRY MORAN: Just the ecstasy that just happened. I’ve seen a lot of roll calls, but I’ve never seen anything like this. I tell you, it was the best party I’ve been to in a long time, but I don’t go to many parties. It was the best party they’ve had. WEIJIA JIANG: Norah, we may be 90 miles away from you in Chicago, but the electricity and the energy that you’re talking about, we can feel it here in this room on the grounds here in Milwaukee. And these bracelets are shining brightly here, too.

As you mentioned earlier, this is exactly the area where former President Donald Trump accepted the Republican nomination last month.
