Here’s who performed on the second night of the Democratic National Convention

The Chicago rapper wowed the second night crowd at the convention center with his 2024 song “Fortunate,” adding a message about Vice President Kamala Harris to his lyrics and backed by gospel singer Jonathan McReynolds on the chorus. “I thank God for this moment when Kamala Harris will change the world for the better with love, hope and grace,” the rapper and activist said.

The Grammy and Oscar-winning rap star is no stranger to the Democratic Party or the White House. In 2016, the wordsmith of “The People” made history by writing the first and only Small desk concert within the property.

Patti LaBelle also graced the stage and performed, where she was greeted with a standing ovation. The “New Attitude” singer, who has been singing professionally for over 60 years, performed her 1978 ballad “You Are My Friend” during the evening’s In Memoriam portion. The living legend evoked emotion from the crowd as she sang along to the lyrics, reminding fans why she is often referred to as the “Godmother of Soul” by contemporaries and critics. This performance by LaBelle comes 20 years after her last performance at the Democratic National Convention, when she wowed a Boston crowd with a cover of Sam Cooke’s freedom anthem “Change Is Gonna Come.” 2004 National Grade Point Average.

Common and LaBelle join a curated selection of artists from Monday night’s political gathering, country acts Mickey Guyton and Jason Isbell.
