President of EA Sports describes launch of College Football 25 as “far beyond our expectations”

EA Sports College Football 25 was released just over a month ago and after 11 years without a video game for the sport, all signs are positive.

My colleague Austin Karp spoke with EA Sports President Cam Weber, who said the response from fans was “incredible” and “far exceeded our expectations.” Weber said: “What really impressed me was the way the community embraced the game.”

The rollout has also gone as smoothly as expected so far. “There was so much that could have gone wrong,” Weber said. “The approach, how much we paid them, how we tried to reach them, the types of programs, the athletes we chose – even the scrutiny of what the cover for a college football game should look like … all of those things could have gone wrong, and they all went so well.”

Weber noted that EA Sports had to work with 134 FBS schools to develop the game – and that’s not even counting the 11,000 individual NIL contracts that had to be signed. “We have college football players all over the country in training camps playing the game together every day and then promoting the game and talking about it on their social channels because they’re so excited about the game and love it so much,” Weber said.

The relaunch has also been a boon for console makers. “I’ve also received numerous calls from executives at Sony and Microsoft saying, ‘Cam, we’re seeing an increase in the number of people buying consoles. Leaving gamers who haven’t moved on to these newer generations of consoles are now choosing to buy a console because they’re so excited to get back and play college football.'”
