Texas Health Resource plans to build a new 60-bed hospital in the fast-growing city of Forney on the eastern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth region.

Texas Health on Thursday unveiled plans for the new 22,000-square-foot hospital, which will include an emergency room, operating rooms, a maternity ward and physician offices. The hospital will eventually grow to about 104 beds, a Texas Health Resources spokesman said.

The hospital is planned on a 50-acre site at U.S. Highway 80 and Reeder Road near the Village at Gateway complex, which will soon house Target, Home Depot and HEB stores.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in 2027. The healthcare company announced that “several hundred jobs” will be created in the region.

“To better meet the growing needs of the community, we are excited to offer more services and access points throughout Kaufman County, including building the first hospital in Forney,” Texas Health CEO Barclay Berdan said in a statement. “With deep roots in the community, including a hospital in Kaufman that has served this community for more than 40 years, we are excited to be able to provide additional health care to the residents of Kaufman County.”

Baylor Scott and White also operates a stand-alone, 24-hour emergency department at its medical center building in Forney.

Kaufman County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 65,000 residents were added between 2012 and 2022, a 61% increase. Forney is the epicenter of this development. The city and its surrounding area nearly doubled in size between 2010 and 2020, with 31,000 additional residents. Costco also plans to build a store on the western edge of Forney on Highway 80.

“We are very excited to welcome this facility to Forney as it provides world-class healthcare to our residents here in our city,” Forney Mayor Jason Roberson said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming Texas Health Resources and the positive impact it will have on our community.”
