Unusually cool/rainy the rest of the week; but warm sunshine returns in the last week of August

It’s another pleasant late summer day, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s in the late afternoon under partly cloudy skies. Humidity remains low and nighttime temperatures are close to normal…not much to complain about!

Rain chances increase tomorrow through Saturday. A relatively strong and cool “low aloft” will move south just off the West Coast tomorrow and linger in southern Oregon and northern California through Saturday. During this time (especially Thursday and Saturday), waves of rain will circle around the low like spokes around a bicycle tire. The result will be intermittent showers. Predicting the arrival time for each band of rain is very difficult, but it’s safe to say we’ll see intermittent showers. It’s also likely we’ll see steady rain for a few hours at some point, probably Friday or Saturday. The big message is that we’re entering a 3-4 day period of unsettled but not stormy weather. Temperatures will drop to about 10 degrees or more below normal for late summer. Thunderstorms are also possible Friday or Saturday, but of the weak kind we’re used to.

Things will get drier and warmer on Sunday and stay that way all NEXT week. Essentially, “summer” is returning as we approach Labor Day weekend.
