Wheeling Artisan Center unveils renovations and new ground floor space

The Wheeling Artisan Center unveiled its recent renovations and new location on Tuesday.

The gift shop was originally located on the second floor of the 1400 Main Street building and has now moved to the ground floor to be more accessible to the public.

Four companies from different industries are now located in the open spaces of the center.

These include Forefront Technology Incorporation, a Cleveland-based company, and Prodigal Daughter Treasures and Trinkets of Steubenville.

“I think when you polish a penny, it just looks better. I think it’s very much needed and Wheeling is doing it everywhere. There’s more to come. It’s so exciting,” said Scott Schenerlein, executive director of Wheeling Heritage.

In addition to $750,000 in ARPA funds provided by the City of Wheeling, the renovations were made possible by congressionally mandated spending pushed through by U.S. Senator and Glen Dale native Shelley Moore-Capito.

“Wheeling is a gateway town. Obviously, there was a lot going on here as the United States developed and moved west,” Capito said. “People stayed in Wheeling, and that was one of the mainstays. A lot of industry, a lot of growth, a lot of prosperity, and I think you see that in the town, and now it’s coming back to life and recovering.”

The Wheeling Artisan Center is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
