Guests of Universal Orlando Resort may have noticed that Fast & Furious – Supercharged is closed for renovations. This infamous attraction has become a low point for both seasoned and new Universal fans and is often considered one of the worst rides at the resort.

Fast & Furious – Supercharged closed on August 19 for renovations and is scheduled to reopen on November 3, 2024. This closure comes as the resort prepares for its annual Halloween Horror Nights event, which transforms several areas of the park into terrifying exhibits, mazes and haunted houses.

The Fast & Furious – Supercharged waiting area will be used for Universal’s Halloween event, but the attraction is also expected to undergo general maintenance during the closure.

“Fast & Furious – Supercharged” is by far the most controversial and hated attraction at the University of Orlando Resort and has therefore become a laughing stock in the community.

The impending closure of the attraction has been known for some time, and rumors suggest that this could be the beginning of the end for Supercharged. In 2020, the attraction had to remain closed for an extended period of time due to low attendance and lack of popularity.

Fans have taken issue with the attraction for a variety of reasons, most notably because the attraction’s theme is so inappropriate. For an attraction based on the Fast and Furious franchise, Supercharged is surprisingly slow. Instead of loading guests into an exotic sports car, they board a massive tour bus while meeting various characters from the Fast and Furious franchise.

The attraction is also losing popularity among fans because it relies on screen technology, as most of the sets and actions are represented digitally through numerous physical props.

Fans called the attraction “boring,” “lazy,” and “cheap,” and some hope Universal will revamp “Supercharged.”

In response to the news that this attraction is closing, several fans expressed their thoughts, ranging from indifference to outright joy. Twitter/X user @M4551V3N3RD commented, “Not long enough.”

Twitter/X user @asvpxclippy said: “Close it forever.”

In 2021, Thierry Coup, senior vice president and CCO of Universal Creative, stated that getting Supercharged approved in Florida was “the biggest mistake of (his) career.”

Despite Supercharged’s rather unique reputation, Universal plans to stick with the Fast & Furious theme for quite some time. The company is currently building a brand new roller coaster based on the franchise in California.

This new roller coaster is likely to deliver the thrills and adrenaline rush that fans were hoping for from an attraction based on the Fast & Furious franchise, and represents a significant departure from Supercharged.

Not much information is known about the upcoming roller coaster yet, but work on the new Fast & Furious attraction has begun in early 2023.
