Camp Springs residents urged to limit water usage – NBC4 Washington

WSSC Water urges its customers in the Camp Springs area of southern Prince George’s County to limit their water use to essential items.

Crews are working to restore water to the Camp Springs water tank after knocking out a line on Monday, resulting in an unexpected loss of water supply to the water tank.

They said they completed the main water repairs on Tuesday morning by restoring the line, but still needed time to fill the water tank.

“This will allow us to maintain adequate pressure in the water tank and in the Camp Springs area for fire protection as well as water supply to customers,” said Luis Maya, a spokesman for WSSC Water.

According to WSSC Water, the water warning affects over 1,000 residents in Camp Springs. Customers can enter their address into an interactive map to see if they are in the affected area.

WSSC Water asks its customers to:

  • Stop using water outdoors – no watering the lawn, no washing the car, no filling the swimming pool
  • Use water only when necessary – that is, take shorter showers and turn off the tap immediately after use.
  • Limit toilet flushing (do not flush after each use)
  • Limit the use of washing machines and dishwashers

Following these guidelines can prevent a boil water advisory and help conserve water for fire protection, officials said.

“If we lost a tank, it would cause a loss of pressure in the system and increase the risk of contamination in the area,” Maya said.

If customers in this area are experiencing low pressure or no water, please call emergency services at 301-206-4002.
