Leigh Diffey named lead live commentator for NBC Sports’ NASCAR Cup Series

NBC Sports has announced that veteran motorsports commentator Leigh Diffey will serve as lead live commentator for NASCAR Cup Series coverage, beginning with this weekend’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday, August 24, in prime time on NBC and Peacock and continuing through the playoffs and season championship on November 10 in Phoenix.

Diffey, who most recently served as lead track and field commentator for NBC Sports at the Paris Olympics, is one of the most prolific voices in motorsports. He has been the lead INDYCAR commentator for NBC Sports for more than a decade, including all six of NBC Sports’ Indianapolis 500 broadcasts, and has provided live commentary for nearly every major motorsports series, including NASCAR, Formula 1, IMSA, Supercross and MotoGP.

While Diffey takes over NBC Sports’ live NASCAR Cup Series coverage, longtime INDYCAR commentator Kevin Lee will take over live coverage for the remainder of NBC Sports’ 2024 NTT INDYCAR Series coverage. Lee, whose work as a live commentator spans more than 30 years, has been the anchor, pit reporter and live commentator for NBC Sports’ NTT INDYCAR SERIES coverage since 2009 and has taken over live coverage for a number of INDYCAR races this season.

Rick Allen will continue as lead NASCAR Xfinity Series commentator for NBC Sports. Xfinity Series coverage will air on USA Network through the Food City 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 20, after which the CW Network will assume its role as the Xfinity Series television broadcaster.

Allen has commentated on NBC Sports’ coverage of the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series since NBC Sports acquired the media rights prior to the 2015 season. Prior to joining NBC Sports, Allen served as a live commentator for the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series for more than a decade.

NBC Sports’ coverage of Daytona International Speedway begins this Friday, August 23rd at 3:00 p.m. ET on USA Network with Xfinity Series qualifying, which transitions into Cup Series qualifying and the Xfinity Series race in prime time. The NTT INDYCAR SERIES heads to Portland International Raceway for the Grand Prix of Portland on Sunday, August 25th at 3:00 p.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock.
