Pitbull gives Kesha renewed credit on “Timber” after receiving backlash for removing the song

Pitbull has once again credited Kesha as the writer of their collaborative song “Timber,” following a backlash over the weekend over the removal of her name.

Over the weekend (August 18), fans took to social media to speak out after noticing that the 2013 song’s music video had been updated to remove her credits from the title. It had also received a new thumbnail image featuring only Pitbull.

Since this discovery came to light, fans have criticized Pitbull for the update. Some called it “evil work,” especially since the song is best known for its catchy chorus sung by Kesha. Fans have also mentioned the “millions” Kesha didn’t receive in royalties for her appearance on the hit. Some have also noted that they considered the song to be Kesha’s song and not a guest appearance.

Following the backlash, Pitbull responded to the update on X/Twitter, confirming that he admires the singer and is watching the update. “(Kesha) and I have an incredible song together. That will not change. Team Pitbull is investigating this matter. Always love for Kesha, Dale!”

Now Kesha’s name appears again in the credits of “Timber” and the song is now listed as “Pitbull, Ke$ha – Timber (featuring Ke$ha – Official Video)”.

A reason for the singer’s name being removed from the song’s music video, more than a decade after its initial release, was never disclosed. Some Fans and the media speculated that this might be related to her legal dispute with producer Dr. Luke.

However, none of this has been confirmed or addressed and at the time of writing, it is still unknown why the video was originally changed.

In other Pitbull-related news, the singer’s song “I Feel Good” was at the center of a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by a company called All Surface Publishing.

A lawsuit was filed against the singer’s label, Mr. 305 Inc. The publisher claimed that Pitbull’s 2021 hit “I Feel Good” infringed the copyright of Debonair Samir’s 2006 song “Samir’s Theme” because it bore “significant similarities.”

The lawsuit came days after the “Hotel Room Service” singer acquired the naming rights to Florida International University’s stadium and renamed the facility “Pitbull Stadium.”

Kesha celebrated her debut single “TiK ToK” reaching a billion streams on Spotify earlier this month by brushing her teeth with a bottle of Jack Daniels. She also revealed that she plans to re-record the song once she has the “legal rights” to do so.
