WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI — A 25-year-old Detroit man faces life in prison after police say he raped a 12-year-old girl in an Oakland County park last Thursday.

According to the Oakland County District Attorney’s Office, the attack occurred at 1 a.m. last Thursday at Pine Lake Park on West Long Lake Road in West Bloomfield Township.

According to prosecutors, an off-duty officer was walking through the park, which closes after sunset, in the early morning hours and saw a parked car with a man and an underage girl standing next to it.

Police identified the man as 25-year-old Joshua Charston Brown-Hill. They concluded that he had “just allegedly engaged in criminal sexual intercourse with the minor child,” prosecutors said.

Brown-Hill was arrested on suspicion of raping the girl. He was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse. If convicted, he faces life in prison with a minimum term of 25 years.

He was taken to the Oakland County Jail and held on $3 million bail. His next court date is scheduled for August 29.

Police could not determine the girl’s identity but said she had been reunited with her parents and was receiving medical and supportive care.

According to investigators, there is no danger to the public.

“I commend the diligence of the West Bloomfield officer who saw this crime and intervened,” said Oakland County District Attorney Karen McDonald. “Those who target children will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”
