Google may remove the dedicated search button from its Android app

Google is considering removing the Search button from the GoogleApps on Android. According to leaker Assemble Debug (via Android Authority), an APK teardown of the latest beta of the Google app – 15.32.37.28.arm64 shows Google testing different layouts for the bottom bar of the app. However, the search button is missing.
The exact reason for the layout change is still unclear, but it is likely that this UI changes are based on data analytics and are “modeled on how actual users interact with the app.” It’s possible that the reason for the removal of the bottom search button is because users don’t interact with it much.
“UI changes like this could be driven largely by data-based analytics that mimic how actual users interact with the app. And if Google’s testing shows that people reach up when searching, a move like this might actually make sense,” the Android Authority report said.
In a related news story, Google is expanding the features of its popular navigation app – Google Maps app to your wrist. As 9to5Google reports, the tech giant has announced the arrival of offline maps support for Wear OS smartwatches. This long-awaited feature will allow users to navigate without relying on a cellular or Wi-Fi connection.
Until now, relying on Google Maps while on the go often meant being tied to a data connection. This limitation could be frustrating, especially in areas with poor network coverage or for those who would rather conserve battery life. With the new offline maps feature, users can now download specific regions for offline access.
