As Joe Biden’s youngest daughter took the stage, he was greeted warmly and enthusiastically by the crowd, many holding signs that read “We love Joe.” The president responded to the admiration with an emotional “Thank you, thank you, thank you… I love you!” After Ashley introduced him and told touching stories about her father as a father and as a leader, Biden wiped his eyes, visibly moved. She spoke about the values he instilled in her, emphasizing fairness, humility and resilience. “Dad always told me that I was no better than anyone else and that no one was better than me,” she said. “He taught me that everyone deserves a fair chance and that we shouldn’t leave anyone behind. That’s what you learn from a fighter who was underestimated his entire life.”
Ashley also reflected on the loss of her brother Beau Biden, who passed away in 2015, and how her father found the strength to continue serving the country despite the grief. “After Beau died, I got this tattoo on my wrist. It says ‘Courage, dear heart’ – a reminder to myself to keep going, to get back up like my father always did,” she said. “He taught me that a brave heart is a wonderful thing. A brave heart can heal a family. A brave heart can heal a nation and maybe even heal the world.”
When President Biden took the stage, the audience erupted in applause. He hugged his daughter and, with tears in his eyes, proudly exclaimed, “That was my daughter!”
