First Jeff Bezos wanted the hobbits, now he has come for the dragons. After spending more than a year New York Times Bestseller list, Rebecca Yarros’ fantasy sensation, Fourth wing– in which the main characters ride dragons and support each other – is being adapted by Amazon into a highly acclaimed Prime Video television adaptation.

If you’re new to the adventures of Violet Sorrengail and her angry but muscular boyfriend Xaden, here’s a quick rundown of what the TV series is about: In Yarros’ universe, there are dragons, and those dragons meet their riders at an elite school called Basgiath War College. There, Violet – small, underestimated, and suffering from a chronic illness similar to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome – forgoes her supposedly quiet life as a scribe for the chance to fight alongside other riders and bond with not one but two dragons. She also meets the traitorous (read: hot) Xaden Riorson, a wing leader who already has a bond with the dragon Sgaeyl, who helps her train for the Dragonback and for the war that threatens her homeland of Navarre.

But how closely Bezos and co. will stick to the beloved (or hated, depending on who you ask) template remains to be seen. The most pressing question, in my opinion, is: Who will lend their voice to my favorite character, Violet’s cheeky dragon Tairn? (And yes, the dragons can talk! Sort of!)

When will Fourth wing come out?

Prime Video has yet to announce a filming or release date. But with the recent news that a showrunner has been officially announced, Amazon seems to be investing resources to ensure the series is produced quickly. They don’t want to miss out on the hype any more than Yarros does.

Who is behind the camera at Fourth Wing?

Fourth Wing will be a joint project between Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, according to diversitySo far, the producers have only made one announcement about the crew: breaking Bad And Anne with an E Author and creator Moira Walley-Beckett will Fourth wing‘s showrunner.

Who will be in Fourth wing pour?

We have no idea yet. But Yarros has made one promise so far: Xaden will be played by a person of color.

When asked about her ideas for the cast – and her thoughts on fan art depicting Xaden as white, even though Yarros describes him as having “warm tawny skin” in the books – the author replied: diversity in November 2024: “We’re just going to say he’s a POC; we’re just going to leave it at that. I didn’t respond to a lot of those posts, which probably got me some criticism, but I knew we were already in development for television, and I want to make sure that this role allowed for as much diversity as possible. So I never wanted to tell readers my vision, because I know that once you tell readers your vision, they’re going to stick with it. And I wanted to make sure we left it open to as much diversity as possible.”

In the same interview, she added: “Outlier is a great production company and they have a wonderful diversity and inclusion agreement, they were one of the first companies to have one. That’s why I was so excited because I knew they would respect the diversity of the cast.”
