Weather in Dallas: Monday officially the hottest day of the year in North Texas

In North Texas we have officially reached the hottest day of the year so far.

Highs of 41.6 degrees Celsius were recorded in some areas on Monday, just one degree below last year’s record of 42.3 degrees Celsius.

Heat warnings will remain in effect until at least Monday night. A pollution warning is also in effect.

The only good news is that humidity will be low, so the heat index on Monday will not be particularly high.

7-day forecast

A weak front is expected to come from the east and will cause temperatures to drop to just under 38 degrees for the rest of the week.

There is a very slight chance of a thunderstorm late day-evening on Tuesday. Cloud coverage will be less than 10%.

The front will then come to a standstill on Wednesday. That will be the only day when temperatures in Dallas and eastern counties could fall below 100 degrees. In Fort Worth and western counties, temperatures will likely still be at or above 100 degrees.

On Thursday and Friday, temperatures across North Texas will again be near 100.

Are you tired of the heat? Remember: it could always be worse.

Last summer we had a total of 26 days with temperatures over 40 degrees.

Safety in the summer heat

Staying safe in the heat can be a challenge for people who have to work there. Staying hydrated is key.

Skyrocketing temperatures on Monday meant we were able to enjoy the outdoors early.

Stephanie Felton and her friend met for lunch in downtown Dallas at 11 a.m. They grabbed a table in the shade.

“It’s supposed to get a lot hotter later, so we tried to get out early and enjoy the sun before it gets uncomfortable,” she said.

Down the street, dozens of construction workers were busy pouring concrete. Their supervisor says his crews start at 6 a.m. so they can finish earlier in the day, before the hot temperatures reach their peak.

So far this month, Dallas Fire-Rescue has responded to 86 heat-related emergency calls.

By comparison, during the same heat wave period last year, DFR responded to 228 emergency calls.

MedStar has handled 224 heat-related emergency calls so far this month.

When the grill and oven are on, the temperature inside can easily be 10 degrees higher than outside.

Whether you are working or playing outdoors, it is important to stay hydrated.
