Death in any Soulslike game can be a stressful experience, and before you get into Black Myth: Wukong for the first time, you may want to know what happens when you die. This guide details the consequences so you can move on with confidence.

What happens when you die in Black Myth: Wukong?

If you die in Black Myth: Wukongyou simply respawn at the last Guardian Shrine without losing your collected Will. All enemies in the area will respawn, which is typical for any Soulslike. But the main difference is that you don’t lose anything you’ve collected. Will is the currency that would serve the same purpose as runes in a game like this Elden Ring. In most Soulslikes, death means that the runes or souls end up on the ground. You must then return to those runes without dying or they will disappear forever.

In Black Myth: Wukongthe collected will will never fall to the ground and will not be associated with enemies you have killed. Instead, all of your will will remain stored in your standard inventory, allowing you to spend it at any shrine or shop. There are no mechanics in the game that can cause you to lose your collected will in any way.

The only true punishment for death in Black Myth: Wukong is resetting all enemies. If you’ve been exploring and slowly eliminating enemies to make the area easier to search, that progress will be lost. However, even some of the most difficult enemies crawling around won’t respawn. Compared to other Soulslikes, the death penalty is incredibly lax and you can feel free to take a few extra risks in your playthrough.
