Recap of Season 21 of The Bachelorette, Episode 7

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from Monday’s episode of The Bachelorette.

Four men compete for Jenn Tran’s heart on The Bacheloretteand it’s time for appointments in the hometown.

Monday night’s episode began with another cold open, this time with Jonathan’s sister-in-law explaining that she and his brother said “I love you” to each other after three dates and moved in together within two weeks of meeting online. That means they know how to move fast in unconventional dating environments!

We’ll have to wait and see whether this means Jonathan’s family is on board, as Devin’s hometown of Houston, Texas is actually the first stop.

Jenn meets him at a park, where he surprises her by planning a one-mile run with some friends from his running club. After running a lap around the park, they take some time to chat with his friends, who all seem to agree. Jenn also meets the most important girl in his life: his dog Charlie.

After playing catch with Charlie and lounging at the park, it’s time to meet the rest of Devin’s family. The couple is greeted in the front yard with a sign that reads, “Welcome home Devin, hello Jenn.”

Jenn seems to make a great first impression. Devin tells his dad that he loves Jenn and wants to spend the rest of his life with her, but he’s afraid to tell her because he doesn’t want her to tell anyone else. In addition to asking his dad for advice, he asks if he sees any warning signs in Jenn that Devin may have missed. His dad says that while he’s concerned about the other men in the relationship, he still sees potential for Devin and Jenn.

Devin’s mother tells Jenn about her own past relationships and explains that she wasn’t always the best role model for Devin and his brother. She’s finally found her happy ending in her current marriage, she says, but she knows it hasn’t always been easy for her sons.

Devin talks to his mom and tells her that it’s been a “weird” experience for him. His mom’s main advice is to make sure they’re both serious. He says he loves Jenn but is afraid to tell her. His mom tells him not to hold anything back and to tell her exactly how he feels because “otherwise you won’t be the one.”

After their meeting, Devin tells Jenn that he loves her. She doesn’t respond yet, but she tells Devin that she’s falling in love with him, and during confession, she admits that she could imagine being in love with Devin.

Next up is Fairfield, Connecticut, Jeremy’s hometown.

Their date starts with something Jeremy always did as a kid – grocery shopping at Stew Leonard’s. It’s a local grocery store chain that’s pretty wacky, with animatronics throughout the store and snacks for hungry shoppers. The two fool around for a while, juggling avocados and enjoying ice cream before heading to the checkout with a load of groceries and finishing off with a lobster roll. They also make a bouquet of flowers for Jeremy’s mom.

Jeremy’s family seems to be a bit skeptical from the start, as Jeremy’s mother admits that when Jenn was named the Bachelorette and she heard her describe what she was looking for in a man, she thought that didn’t sound like Jeremy.

Jenn talks to his younger sister, who asks him what she sees in Jeremy. Jenn says they laughed a lot but didn’t express their feelings and she is confused about what is going on in his head. Jenn leaves the conversation feeling quite unsettled after his sister says he may not be ready to get engaged because the timeline is tight, but that doesn’t mean he won’t commit to her as a partner.

When talking to his younger sister, Jeremy says he can see a future with Jenn, and he’s surprised to hear that Jenn thinks he’s holding back. However, Jeremy’s mother doesn’t think her son has opened up much at all, considering that when she asks him about their relationship, all he can say is that they have fun together. His mother says they need to go deeper in their conversations before she can feel comfortable with the relationship.

His mother also keeps her cards close to her chest when talking to Jenn, who asks if Jeremy is ready for an engagement. His mother says she doesn’t know because she just met Jenn and doesn’t know anything about their relationship. That’s not exactly what Jenn wanted to hear, and she leaves the date a little disappointed because his mother doesn’t seem hopeful about the relationship.

Before sending her to her next hometown, Jeremy tells Jenn that he is falling in love with her.

The leading actress then flies to San Diego, California to meet Jonathan.

Jenn’s goal in this hometown is to get Jonathan to open up to her more. Things start off promisingly when Jonathan plans for them to play lacrosse together, a sport they both played in high school. It’s a good moment that brings the two closer together, and it sets the tone for the second half of the day with his family as they leave hoping to come out of it stronger.

This is where Jonathan’s brother and sister-in-law come in, explaining that they have also made rapid progress in their own relationship. However, Jonathan’s brother is still very skeptical about the process Jenn and Jonathan have gone through, especially because other men are involved.

Jenn eventually gets the green light from Jonathan’s mother and sister, which seems to be exactly what he needs to take the next step. After getting to know the family, Jonathan tells Jenn that he is falling in love with her.

Last but not least, there is Marcus’ hometown of Tacoma, Washington State.

Although his adoptive parents are not present, his sister and many of his friends – including some parental figures – are there to welcome them.

While talking to a friend, Marcus confesses that he is not in love with Jenn yet and he worries about whether he will make it. He also thinks that maybe they are holding back from each other because neither of them expresses their true feelings until the other does, out of fear. Marcus is afraid that if he doesn’t open up, he might lose Jenn and really regret it.

Little does he know that Jenn feels the same way. She tells one of his friends that she is holding back from Marcus because she doesn’t know what is going on in his head.

Jenn and Marcus both find clarity after talking to his sister, who assures them both that they seem to be a good fit and they should take the leap of faith. At the end of the date, Marcus also says he’s falling in love with her.

Before the rose ceremony, the men gather for one last hurrah before they all go their separate ways. With the fantasy suites and engagement fast approaching, this is the last time they will see each other outside of a rose ceremony.

They share all the details about their hometown dates, and everyone is confident. That is, except for Marcus, who says he’s nervous to hear that the other men have let go of all their reservations about Jenn and the relationship, but he still has some.

The good news for Marcus is that he has more time to explore these feelings because he receives a rose. So do Devin and Jonathan. Jenn sends Jeremy home.

The Bachelorette airs Mondays at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
