Bearkats add trip to Texas Tech to 2026 schedule

HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston officials announced a future opponent for Bearkat football on Monday, adding a trip to Texas Tech to the 2026 schedule.
The single game will take place on September 26, 2026 at Jones AT&T Stadium in Lubbock.
The trip to Lubbock is the second game on Sam Houston’s 2026 schedule. A Sept. 5 game at Troy is already scheduled. Sam Houston is now scheduled to play at least one game each year through 2030.
The Bearkats are currently preparing to open the upcoming 2024 season at Rice on August 31st, followed by a trip to UCF. The first game of the 2024 season at Bowers Stadium will be against Hawaii on September 14th before the Kats begin CUSA play against NM State on September 21st in Huntsville.

The game will mark the third time the Bearkats and Red Raiders have faced each other on the football field, with each time being played in Lubbock. The last time they met was in 2015 in a game on the High Plains that ended in a shootout and resulted in a 59-45 win for the Red Raiders. The two powerful offenses combined for 1,282 yards in the game, including 671 yards from the Kats. The first meeting was in 2005, and Texas Tech won 80-21.
