MAX CAVALERA's favorite riffs – Episode 1

Welcome to the first edition of ESP’s Max Monday, where legendary Brazilian metal guitar king Max Cavalera demonstrates some of his most iconic riffs and tells you the story behind each one. Episode 1: “Refuse/Resist.”

“Refuse/Resist” is the opening track from Chaos AD, Sepultura’s fifth studio album, released by Roadrunner Records in 1993. The official video can be seen below.

Soulfly’s US tour begins October 19th and ends November 9th with a special “Max Cavalera Dynasty Show” at The Marquee in Tempe, Arizona. The show will feature special guests Incite, Go Ahead And Die, Healing Magic and Jade Helm, as well as the return of Max and Igor Cavalera’s Nailbomb. Tickets are available here.

Nailbomb consists of three guitarists, Max and Igor Cavalera and Travis Stone. The three just came off the Cavalera Third World Trilogy tour in Europe. Travis is also the guitarist for Pig Destroyer. Johny Chow, formerly of Stone Sour, Fireball Ministry and Cavalera Conspiracy, will play bass. Alex Cha from Pig Destroyer is on the sampler and Adam Jarvis from Misery Index and Pig Destroyer will pound the drums.

Max and Igor Cavalera will also be seen with their other bands Go Ahead And Die, Soulfly and Healing Magic. Richie Cavalera will bring the raw power of thrash to the stage with his band Incite. Phenomenal bassist Jackie Cruz of Go Ahead And Die, who captivated everyone in America on the GAAD debut tour earlier this year, will bring her band Jade Helm.

Max Cavalera says: “I’m excited to play with Soulfly on the headbanger boat Lamb of God and go to the Dominican Republic and back. We’ll be going through the southernmost mosh pits in America to get to the cruise! The tour ends with the Dynasty show.

“I am so excited to present the Max Cavalera Dynasty show in our hometown! This is a family that is deeply rooted in the metal tradition! The special, rare appearance of Nailbomb will make this evening unforgettable! Maybe in the future I can even offer this package to the tribe and other parts of the world!”
