Oshi No Ko Season 2 Episode 7 – Akane won, but at what cost?

Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode 7 sets the stage for the highly anticipated rivalry between Akane and Kana. Or does it? While I was bracing myself for an intense showdown that would finally show who the better actress is, I was a little disappointed by Kana’s quick and unexpected concession. It was disappointing, to say the least.

Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode 7 Kana vs Akane

Although Kana’s decision to step back and let Akane shine benefits the piece, it is a little disappointing for those of us who were hoping to see her do her best. Unlike in Sweet Today, where she was undeniably the best by far, she is now on par with the rest of the cast. This was supposed to be her moment to show the world that Kana hasn’t lost her sense of humor, but sadly that didn’t happen. However, the episode does show why Kana held back and it all had to do with her past trauma.

Despite her young age, Kana has already grasped the harsh realities of the entertainment industry. She is very aware that popularity is more important than talent, and this truth weighs heavily on her. This episode reflects the immense pressure faced by child stars who must constantly meet the demands of the industry just to stay relevant. The brutality of the entertainment world spares no one, not even its youngest talents and rising stars.

Akane was also faced with a harsh reality in this episode. Meeting her idol in such a disheartening way must have been incredibly painful. What stands out, however, is her maturity in handling the situation. At her age, many would have broken down or even hated Kana or the entertainment industry as a whole, but not Akane. Instead, she tried to understand Kana and went to great lengths to empathize with her, which made me think that Akane may be more obsessed with Kana than we realize.

Akane is probably Kana’s biggest fan and harshest critic at the same time. It’s ironic, as Akane once saw Kana as a selfish actress who craved the spotlight, yet now she’s just as possessive of Kana’s brilliance. Akane doesn’t just want to compete with Kana; she wants to outshine her when she’s at her best. Although it seems like Akane won this round, it somehow felt undeserved since Kana held back a lot. The performance isn’t over yet, however, and it’s up to her and Aqua to help Kana regain her former glory and shine like the child star she once was.

Oshi no Ko Season 2 Episode 7 Akane

So far, the production quality of Oshi no KoThe second season of was simply amazing. It amazes me how Doga Kobo has maintained impressive consistency throughout the anime so far. They have really outdone themselves with this adaptation and this might even be their best work yet. The animation is stunning, every frame is so mesmerizing. Not to mention Akane as Saya-hime is just too beautiful. Ruby has always been my favorite, but with the way the series presents Akane, I can understand why someone might be tempted to switch sides (but don’t worry, I’m a Ruby fan to the end!).
