Hannah Faith Cormier, 32, told police she accidentally left her 10-month-old daughter in the car when she was called to work on Tuesday, Aug. 13, Jennings Police Chief Danny Semmes said.

Investigators found that the interior temperature of the vehicle was 140–150 °C.

According to Semmes, Cormier’s work records show that she was at work for two hours.

He described the case as “complex” but could not provide any details.

Semmes said witness testimony, forensic evidence, surveillance video and electronic records led investigators to charge Cormier with first-degree murder rather than involuntary manslaughter.

She took the child to the hospital around 4 p.m. and hospital staff called the police. Semmes said the child had a fever of 108 degrees Fahrenheit when she arrived at the hospital.

The baby died in the hospital the following night.

Cormier was arrested Sunday afternoon on charges of cruelty to juveniles and second-degree murder. Her bail has not yet been set.
