Mattie Virginia Waters, 91, of Boonville, MO, passed away on August 9, 2024 at the University of Missouri Hospital.

Mattie was born on April 27, 1933, in rural Howard County to Charles William and Mattie Inez “Rugg” Waters. As a young adult, she was a member of the Boonesboro Christian Church and worked as a nurse in local nursing homes. Mattie enjoyed tending to her flower gardens and animals when she was able. She especially loved her great-nieces and nephews, whom she affectionately called her “babies.”

Those leaving to honor her memory include a brother, Charles W. Waters of Franklin, MO; sisters, Elsie Waters of Boonville, MO, Phyllis Maggard of Boonville and Ellen Garrison of Broken Arrow, OK; nieces and nephews, Michael Garrison, Christy Josefchuk, Tammie Market, Jack Maggard and Leilani Maggard; great nieces and nephews, “her babies” Emily Gross, Ashleigh Maggard, Kaitlyn Maggard, Spencer Gross, Michael Garrison, Andrew Garrison, Benjamin Garrison, Richard Josefchuk and Ethan Josefchuk. Also surviving are her caregivers and friends of Ashley Manor in Boonville.

Mattie’s parents, Charles William and Mattie Inez Waters, and her sister, Mary Martha Waters, predeceased her.

Funeral services in Mattie’s honor were held on Friday, August 16, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Markland-Yager Funeral Home in New Franklin. The laying out of the body took place one hour before the funeral service began at the funeral home.

Following the service, burial took place at Boonesboro Cemetery.
