Dakota Stach dies in dirt bike accident in Canton Township

CANTON TWP. – A 20-year-old Canton man died as a result of injuries sustained in a dirt bike crash in the 400 block of Marietta Avenue SE Sunday evening.

The Stark County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Dakota Stach, who was riding a blue 2006 Yamaha YZ250 dirt bike at the time of the accident.

He was driving north on Marietta at 10:03 p.m. when he veered off the right side of the road and struck a mailbox and a utility pole, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. Stach, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from his dirt bike and came to rest in a nearby yard.

The patrol said a witness said the dirt bike was traveling at high speed.

“Upon arrival on scene, emergency personnel found a single male occupant who had suffered severe cardiac arrest due to injuries sustained,” Canton Township Deputy Fire Chief Rick Morabito wrote in an email.

He said the patient was taken to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital in Canton, where he succumbed to his injuries despite life-saving efforts by firefighters and emergency room personnel.
