If you are starting your zombie survival adventure for the first time in 7 days to dieyou are immediately thrown into a huge game world. You have one goal – to find the next merchant – but otherwise you are on your own. It’s challenging, with horrors around every corner, and if you’re unprepared, a single zombie can end your run. But with the right armor, you will survive!

How to craft armor sets

Don’t expect to be able to craft many of the game’s armor sets right away. They’re expensive and require tons of resources, various workbenches, and time. Your first set, the Primitive Armor Set, can be crafted with a handful of resources straight from your inventory system. It’s sufficient, but you’ll want to upgrade it quickly.

As you progress further in the game, you’ll need a workbench and a forge to smelt iron ore into wrought iron, which is an important part of many armor sets. But to do this, you’ll first need to track down iron deposits, which usually spawn underground. You’ll have much better luck if you find a mining POI, or you can dig deep into the ground with a shovel in the hopes of finding a small deposit.

In addition to resources like iron, many armor sets also require armor crafting kits, which you can find in high-value loot containers and as quest rewards from the vendors.

Armor types in the game

In total, 7 days to die offers 16 unique armor sets, most of which provide a set bonus that improves your stats and abilities when wearing each piece. These armor sets fall into four categories: Primitive Armor, Light Armor, Medium Armor, and Heavy Armor.

In the early game, you’ll likely be wearing the Primitive Armor. It’s the least expensive to craft, but it’s also the only armor set in the game that doesn’t offer a bonus. The full set includes the Primitive Hood, Primitive Outfit, Primitive Gloves, and Primitive Shoes. They’re the absolute basics, but they’ll help you stay alive.

However, you will want to quickly upgrade to better armor.

Unless you like letting zombies nibble on your bare skin, you should consider crafting armor sets in 7 days to die. A basic weapon, some early game armor, and a few medical supplies will get you through the first few days, probably until the first blood moon, but not much beyond that.
