Authorities in Lahore launch cleanup operation to remove debris from streets

LAHORE: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and the Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) on Monday began an operation to remove construction materials and debris from the streets of Lahore with the aim of improving cleanliness and order in the city.

The operation, supervised by LDA Director General Tahir Farooq, focused on Adda Plot, Pine Avenue and adjoining roads. During his visit to the construction sites, DG Farooq directed the LDA Chief Town Planner and Raiwind Deputy Commissioner to quickly clear encroachments and debris. He stressed that plots violating construction material storage protocols would face closure and legal action.

DG Farooq urged the public to cover construction materials with green tarpaulins and follow the established standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure that the materials remain within the designated construction lines. He stressed the need for strict adherence to the SOPs, especially on under-construction sites and other plots.

The initiative targets both temporary and permanent obstructions to Adda Plot, Pine Avenue and surrounding roads, including removal of illegal signs in green belts and on footpaths.

He also directed the LDA’s enforcement unit to work closely with the district administration to achieve coordinated action in these areas.

Director DG Headquarters Asif Hussain, Chief Town Planner II Azhar Ali, Deputy Commissioner Raiwind Zainab Tahir, Director Town Planning, LDA Enforcement Unit and MCL officials were present during the operation.
