GVL data | Seymour impresses in third term
Seymour’s clash with Kyabram in Round 17 reduced his senior season in the Goulburn Valley League to a 120-minute example.
After a slow start, with Kyabram scoring seven goals to two in the first period, the Lions fought their way back into the contest before showing their collective strength in the penultimate period, but ultimately failed to win in the final period.
Seymour had a similar story over the course of the season, winning one of their first eight matches before winning two in a row and three out of five ahead of their clash with Kyabram. Mooroopna awaits in the final round this weekend.
Thanks to the GVL data, Saturday’s third-quarter dominance can be analyzed and, as far as the Lions are concerned, hopefully extrapolated to a full matchup next week and next year.
Seymour won the Bombers in third quarter possessions 89-66, contested possessions 34-29 and interceptions 19-14.
The Lions also scored 36 marks to 20 – including seven contested marks to two – four more interception marks and five more marks inside 50.
This resulted in a massive 183 ranking point difference for Seymour in that stanza and contributed to the Lions scoring five goals to one on the season.
Nathan Beattie himself had 62 ranking points in this quarter, with Tom Maloney (48), Ricky Schraven (38) and Jack Murphy (35) also contributing.
In fact, Seymour had nine of the top eleven ranking points this season.
