Delhi: 18-year-old dies after air conditioner falls on him from second floor, while another teenager is in critical condition

In a tragic accident near Karol Bagh, New Delhi, an air conditioner fell from the second floor of a building and hit two youths lying on the ground. One of the victims, an 18-year-old, was killed while the other remains in critical condition.

Police responded to a PCR call and launched an investigation. An FIR has been filed for negligent homicide and experts are currently examining the crime scene.

Initial investigations revealed that the external unit of an air conditioning unit installed in a second-floor apartment had come loose and fallen on the teenagers. Both victims were immediately taken to a nearby medical center for treatment.

After the tragic incident, the police found the CCTV footage of the incident. According to ToI report, Jitesh was seen sitting on a scooter and talking to another victim. The moment Pranshu hugged Jitesh, the AC fell on them, leaving Jitesh lifeless.

An FIR has been filed under sections 125(a) (endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (culpable homicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a police official said. “The forensic team has examined the crime scene and further investigation is underway,” the official added.

The incident triggered an uproar in the apartment and people called mechanics to check their air conditioners. Experts said the mounted air conditioners should be checked regularly and proper precautions should be taken to prevent such accidents. (With ToI inputs)
