Dogs in daycare try sparkling water – their reactions are crucial

For a change, a dog daycare in North Carolina tested how their puppies would react to the taste of mineral water – and their reactions sparked hysterical outrage on the Internet.

With so many unique characters coming to the Dog Play Spot in Wilmington every day, the staff obviously loves keeping them entertained. Although some Labs may think there are only so many games of fetch you can play in a day, the team loves finding new ways to keep the dogs busy—including an unexpected taste test.

Grayson Hirtz, yard keeper and co-social media manager of the daycare, said Newsweek that she had seen another TikTok video of dogs trying sparkling water and she just had to try it at her facility, too. She joked that many of the dogs had such “silly personalities” that she knew it would lead to some memorable reactions.

She filled a bowl with the sparkling water and let each dog try it. Dogs like Hurley, Shep and Sully didn’t mind the unusual new drink, but the reactions of Joey, Salty and Abbey showed exactly what they thought of it.

Hurley and Abbey both seemed fascinated by the sparkling water in their bowls. The doggy daycare staff were fascinated by the reactions they got, and the dogs did not disappoint.

“I didn’t expect any of the dogs to necessarily like the sparkling water, but a few of them did and wanted to keep drinking,” said Hirtz. “Some of them were indifferent and reacted like they would to regular water. And then others (mainly the Labradors) were really surprised by the sparkling water and splashed it everywhere.”

“Labradors tend to drink water with their whole nose because they love water, so the bubbles in the water probably really tickled their noses.”

Of all the reactions she captured, Hirtz says Finn, the chocolate Labrador (nicknamed OG), was her favorite.

But she was most surprised by the dogs, who seemed to enjoy the sparkling water. She added that they either “liked” the bubbles or simply didn’t notice any difference.

“Many of them had just come from playing outside, and those who enjoyed it may have just been particularly thirsty after running around the yards,” she continued.

Since the clip was shared on TikTok (@thedogplayspotwilmington), it has gone viral with more than 3.1 million views and over 320,700 likes. Internet users can’t get enough of the variety of reactions, especially from the dogs who were “not big fans” of this unusual treat.

As co-social media manager at The Dog Play Spot, Emma Pitney loves capturing these moments and sharing what the dogs are up to at daycare. She told Newsweek that there was an overwhelmingly positive response to the video on the Internet, with reactions being “everywhere.”

She continued, “Our clients love the videos we post because they get a behind-the-scenes look at their dogs’ activities at daycare. The comments on the video have been really funny and entertaining to read.

“I didn’t expect them to necessarily like the taste of the sparkling water, but it was surprising how many different reactions we got. My favorite reaction was definitely from Joey, the tri-colored beagle. He tried it once and immediately ran away.”

It goes without saying that the dogs and their TikTok followers can’t wait to see what Hirtz and Grayson come up with for their next experiment.

The viral TikTok clip has already garnered over 870 comments, with many social media users joking about how relatable they found the reactions. One comment reads: “To be honest, that’s exactly my reaction to sparkling water.”

Another person added: “The way they look at the water afterwards is as if it insulted them.”

Others praised Hurley for his indifference, with one joking: “To be honest, I’m not even sure Hurley noticed the water was spicy.”

Another commenter wrote: “Hurley said give me 14 of these right now.”
