Edu Manzano jokes he would win gold medals if “floor scrubbing” was an Olympic discipline

Veteran actor, television presenter and politician Edu Manzano joked on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that he would get four gold medals if “scrubbing floors” were an Olympic event.

He wrote: “With the latest floor routine at the Olympics, I got 4 gold medals.” This playful comment comes after Carlos Yulo’s historic victory at the Paris Olympics. Manzano also pointed out his 35 years of experience in scrubbing floors.

Scrubbing floors is a popular tradition of Filipino families, especially those who live or have lived in old wooden houses. On weekends or during free time, families come together to clean their homes. To get that extra shine, they use coconut shells that are specifically designed for scrubbing floors. It’s a traditional practice that many Filipinos grew up with – you may have even tried it yourself!

Several netizens took notice of the joke and shared their own humorous stories. One commenter added: “I won 10 medals. Simulate elementary school, high school and floor exercises. “I heard the weightlifting from other people appointed by my family.”

Another commenter referenced the joke, saying, “Di ka makakalabas ng bahay para maglaro hanggat di ka tapos magbunot sa buong bahay.” To which the actor replied, “Totoo yan!”

Another commenter chimed in, playfully challenging their competitive spirit and noting that they could do it too, adding that they had done so from home and at school.
