General Hospital’s Bryan Craig leaves us speechless as he recounts the horrific, “traumatic experience” he was “lucky” to survive

Life in Port Charles isn’t easy most of the time, but sometimes real life can make even General Hospital seem harmless by comparison. That’s the lesson we learned when Bryan Craig (Morgan) reunited with Maurice Benard (Sonny) for a special live version of State of mind during the GH fan club weekend.

The two started the interview off on a high note when Craig revealed that he was dating a narcissist. And believe us when we say that everyone’s jaws dropped as he told the incredible story that sounded like it was ripped straight out of a movie plot.

It all started, Craig says, during the pandemic when he moved to Mexico with his then-girlfriend. He talks a little about what it was like dating a narcissist and how it was great at first, but over time “little things gnaw at you and you feel like you can’t do anything right.”“I don’t want to say that love is blind,” he tells Benard, “because that sounds really cliché, but it is. And I didn’t really know what was happening when I experienced that. I just thought, ‘Wow, this person knows how to completely rob me of my confidence.’ They did it gradually, in small steps.”

Had it not been for the pandemic, when, as he puts it, “the world was upside down,” he might not have agreed to move to Mexico with her, “but either way, I bought the ticket, I went. I fell head over heels in love with this girl and moved there without really knowing her.”

Craig admits there were all sorts of warning signs he ignored, from her being mean to the relationship being mostly one-sided as he surprised her with little gestures while she didn’t even bother to get him a Christmas present.

Then, he tells Benard, “it got a lot worse. I started seeing warning signs on another level.” He was sitting at her computer as they tried to build a business, and messages started popping up from guys asking when they were going on trips and when she was free. Worse, he stumbled upon a lot of, shall we say, explicit videos of her with older gentlemen.

She gave him evasive answers when he asked her about it, but “there I was, feeling a little stuck. And at that point, I guess it was the pandemic. So we were in quarantine. Four or five months feels like two years. … So, after four or five months, I started seeing these things.”

The scandal erupted around her birthday (which was also around New Year’s), and Craig booked a trip to Tulum for the two of them and some of his friends to celebrate.

“Now it gets (BEEP) crazy,” he tells Benard and the show’s audience. “We get on the plane and we’re in the air for maybe 30 minutes and we’re sitting in the row between us. And she turns to me and says, ‘Hey, when we land, I’m getting in a cab and going my way. You’re getting in a cab and going your way and you’re never going to talk to me again, find me, call me or text me.'”

Craig, of course, thought she was joking and was amused at first. But no, she was dead serious. They landed and went their separate ways, but luckily Craig had his friends to lean on as he tried to process and grieve what had happened. But it didn’t end there. Because he saw her again one night when they were both at a party.

He had already had more than a few drinks when he saw her and went over to her, only to be coldly and calmly told to go away and stay away. Then, a little later in the night, he saw her with another guy and ran after them. “She goes to another part of the house with this guy,” he told an astonished Benard, “and I’m sitting there with two of my friends and I’m just so heartbroken.”

He didn’t get far, however, as he ran after them before he was “attacked from left, right and behind by three huge guys with guns and knives.” They beat him, put guns to his head, a knife to his throat, choked him and carried him into the woods where they dumped him at three in the morning.

“It was pitch black,” he recalls, “and I probably had to walk two and a half kilometers through the jungle to find the hotel, and that was at about four in the morning, completely stunned.”

He didn’t dare return to the house he had shared with his ex. Instead, he took a flight home and stayed with his parents – one of the few times in his life that he moved back in. The whole experience sounds like something out of a wild movie, but it left him understandably traumatized. He went to therapy and for a while woke up screaming at night with night terrors. “II don’t remember what we were working on,” he admits, “but it was just a really traumatic Experience.”

“I did a little research,” he tells Benard, and found out that his ex “worked for a very dangerous cartel and did sex work for them. I was in great, great, great danger and I was lucky to get out alive.”

We’re just glad Craig got out alive, but we feel very sorry he ever had to go through such trauma. While Danger is fun enough to watch General HospitalWe would never expect something like this in the real world!
