Was the NASCAR race canceled today due to rain? Find out when the Cup race will resume

Because rain caused numerous delays at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, NASCAR decided to suspend the FireKeepers Casino 400 and resume racing on Monday at 11 a.m. ET.

The Cup Series race, scheduled to begin around 2:40 p.m. ET, was delayed for more than two hours due to rain in Brooklyn, Michigan, with the green flag eventually dropping at 4:55 p.m. ET.

The drivers managed to complete the first stage, with Ryan Blaney taking the win. Denny Hamlin spun on lap 39 of the 45-lap stage, prompting a yellow flag.

Hamlin started from pole after Saturday’s qualifying session was cancelled due to rain. The wet weather also delayed the start of Sunday’s race, forcing the cars to pit after a few formation laps.

Jet dryers attempted to remove some of the moisture and make the track race-ready, but the weather was not on their side.

After more than two hours, the drivers got back in their cars. Kyle Larson took the lead on the first lap, reaching over 200 mph on the straightaways and around 180 mph in the corners to hold it.

On lap 36, with Larson and Hamlin battling side by side, Bubba Wallace made a bold move by going deep and passing them both.

Michael Jordan, co-owner of 23XI Racing with Hamlin, was spotted smiling after Wallace’s impressive maneuver.

A few laps later, Hamlin attempted to regain ground behind Wallace but lost control, resulting in another yellow flag.

Wallace decided to pit, foregoing the chance to earn 10 points for winning the stage. Instead, he pursued a fuel and tire strategy that could give him the win. Ryan Blaney took advantage of this and crossed the finish line first after 45 laps.

Currently, 12 drivers have qualified for the playoffs, with four spots still up for grabs with three races remaining in Michigan, Daytona and Darlington.

After the FireKeepers 400, drivers and teams have a short break to prepare for Friday qualifying for the Coke Zero Sugar 400, which takes place Saturday night in Daytona Beach, Florida.

During the caution period, most drivers went to get fuel and tires, but Blaney and several others stayed out. Blaney, driving for Team Penske, led at the restart and held on to the end of the stage in a three-lap sprint.

The seven drivers who remained out during the first caution period later pitted during the Competition Caution, allowing Elliott and Martin Truex Jr. to take the top two spots.

As the skies darkened, drivers completed seven more laps under yellow before being sent to the pit lane to secure the cars in the hope of being able to restart and continue until either the halfway point was reached or it became completely dark.

To answer your question, “Will the NASCAR race be postponed today?” Yes. At 6:10 p.m. local time, as another weather cell approached the track, NASCAR officially called it a day. This is the second race this year to finish on a Monday. The first was the Daytona 500 on opening weekend.

The conclusion of the race will be broadcast on the USA Network on Monday, with live streams available on the NBC Sports website and app, as well as on Fubo.
