Prosecutor: Man made of brick wall sent detective nude photos in which he pretended to be a teenager

BRICK, NJ — A Brick Township man was arrested after sending nude photos and a video of himself to someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl, the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Christian M. Kohl, 46, was charged with possession of child pornography, attempted endangerment of the welfare of a child and attempted provision of obscene material to minors and was arrested on Thursday, District Attorney Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Authorities were investigating reports that a person was sending and receiving child pornography. Kohl’s address was identified as the address from which the images were distributed, prosecutors said.

In addition, an investigator disguised as a 14-year-old girl conducted an undercover chat investigation on the Kik messenger service from May to August and conducted conversations with a user who posed as a 38-year-old man, the public prosecutor’s office said.

During the conversations, the user sent the investigator “numerous inappropriate nude photos and videos of herself,” even though the investigator repeatedly told him that “she” was a 14-year-old girl, authorities said.

The user was ultimately identified as Kohl.

This investigation was the result of a referral from the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that an individual was sending/receiving images of child pornography from the Internet.

Authorities searched Kohl’s home on Thursday and an initial forensic examination of Kohl’s cellphone by the Ocean County District Attorney’s Office’s High Tech Crime Unit led to the discovery of several documents containing child pornography, authorities said.

Kohl was arrested and taken to the Ocean County Jail, where he will be held pending his detention hearing.

The Ocean County District Attorney’s Office High Technology Crimes Unit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Investigative Division, the Monmouth County District Attorney’s Office, the Brick Township Police Department, and the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force collaborated in the investigation.
