IKEA has reduced the prices of its iconic BILLY bookcase series

The IKEA BILLY bookcase is a staple in the Swedish brand’s cult classic repertoire and one of their most popular and sought-after products. Well, we have good news because IKEA has announced a new, lower price for some of its BILLY bookcase models ahead of Easter.

Whether you plan on using the BILLY bookcase straight out of the box (after assembling it, of course) or you’re looking to pick one up to upgrade after a new IKEA hack you discovered online, consider this brand new lower price your sign to finally get started.

IKEA has been introducing quite a few changes to its BILLY bookcase range recently, from a material change last year to the introduction of a limited edition blue colourway in January, but we have to say that this change might be the most exciting of all.

You can now get a BILLY glass door bookcase in a grey metallic finish for £150 (down from £199). A number of additional items from the BILLY family have also been reduced, including the BILLY white drawer on castors from £35 to £25 and the BILLY tall and narrow bookcase from £39 to £35. Meanwhile, the traditional best-selling BILLY bookcase remains at its affordable price of £55.

The price cuts are part of an ongoing rollout of “new lower prices” on hundreds of items, which began in January for 1,500 IKEA products. We’ve already seen this change come into effect with the new lower prices on KALLAX shelves and other bestsellers, including a price cut on the RASKOG trolley.

IKEA BILLY Bookshelf Hacks

With that in mind, since we’ve got you covered, here are a few of our favorite IKEA hacks to turn a BILLY bookcase into a bespoke dream. If you’ve been inspired to invest after the new price cut.

1. Shelf for the dining room

If you don’t have any storage solutions for your dining room, you could buy a couple of BILLY bookcases and turn them into your own ideal shelving unit. Or better yet, if you have a busy household, why not add a chalkboard to the side for planning grocery shopping, making a to-do list and general reminders?

2. A tailor-made library

For those of you who are bookworms and are looking for a spacious yet stylish book storage idea, there is a way to do something bespoke. This genius TikTok IKEA hack by Caroline McQuistin (@carolinemcquistin) used three BILLY bookcases to create the library of her dreams and painted them blue for a bright pop of colour. Needless to say, we’re obsessed.

3. A luxury closet

Although IKEA classics look timeless on their own, we would never turn down a more luxurious version. This clever hack by Jen Rothbury (@crack_the_shutters) transforms a BILLY bookcase into a luxury cabinet that looks so good, you wouldn’t even believe it’s an IKEA product.

4. Cave style corner

Instead of placing your BILLY bookshelves against the wall as usual, you could place them opposite each other and hang a curtain over them to create a cave-like corner, perfect for reading and playing in your children’s room.

Although the reduced price of the BILLY bookcases caught our immediate interest, there are a few other new, cheaper products from IKEA, including BRIMNES and MALM bed frames, the HEMNES glass-door wardrobe and the ever-popular DRONA boxes (which fit perfectly with KALLAX shelves). In fact, a total of 400 products from the retailer’s homeware and storage range have been reduced.

With inflation and price increases everywhere, it is a refreshing change, to say the least, to see IKEA go in the opposite direction and make prices more affordable for shoppers at a time when the cost of living continues to rise.
