Summary of the first episode of the anime Rick and Morty
The episode began with alien bugs planning to invade a planet inhabited by religious worm-like aliens. Just as they were about to conquer it, Summer Smith arrived in space and took control of the alien ship, thwarting their plans.
In retaliation, the alien bugs made their way to the Smith family home and captured Rick Sanchez. While torturing him, however, Summer revealed that their hostage was actually a hologram and the real Rick was hiding somewhere in space.
Meanwhile, Morty is trapped in a virtual reality game developed by Rick. While navigating through various scenarios, Morty met Elle, a warrior. Their encounter was brief, as Morty reset and met Rick instead.
This Rick came from another dimension where his Morty had already died, and the game Morty was playing seemed to connect different dimensions.
The scenario reset again and Morty met Frank, a coward turned hero. In different scenarios, Elle and Frank eventually gave Morty a Nander Dragon Sweat as part of their journey.
While more simulations were running, Rick prepared to go home. Just as Morty was about to get his happy ending, Summer abruptly pulled the plug and ended the simulation.
