The shopping center will remain open during the modernization work, which is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2025.

City Square Mall at the junction of Serangoon and Kitchener Roads will expand its gross floor area (GFA) by approximately 26,000 square feet following the completion of a $50 million asset enhancement initiative (AEI) in 2025.

The 11-storey mall is owned and managed by Singapore-listed company City Developments (CDL), which positions it as a family and community-oriented place. Some of the mall’s areas previously reserved for mechanical and electrical equipment will be freed up for more sports and community facilities. The additional gross floor area released will improve the mall’s operational efficiency, overall layout and functionality.

New F&B offerings will be added on Level 4 of the mall, creating a new 2,200 sqm “Gastro Square”. The Food Republic food court, currently located on Level 4, will be relocated to a new 836 sqm area on Basement 3. The ceilings of the atriums from Level 2 to Level 4 will be extended to create new retail space.

New food and drink outlets on basement levels 1 and 2 include Jie Traditional Bakery, Munchi Pancakes, Towkay Fried Chicken and lemon tea vendor Taning. They will join existing tenants Crave, EAT., Nam Kee Pau and Ya Kun Kaya Toast.

In addition to diversifying its dining options, the 15-year-old mall will be rejuvenated with modernized interiors, additional community facilities and sustainable features. For example, the fourth floor will feature activities for young people and families, as well as a dedicated event area with space for social gatherings and events.

As part of the mall’s sustainability efforts, upcycled materials will be incorporated into elevator lobbies and wall coverings from basement levels 4 to 6, including murals made from sustainable materials.
