AIM OF THE PETITION: Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) – Animal Cruelty Task Force

An English bulldog named Reba was cruelly placed in a sealed plastic container and left to die in the heat of Las Vegas, as KLAS News reports.

Reba had been trapped and abandoned next to a dumpster, suffocating and struggling to survive in temperatures of over 90 degrees. People walking through the parking lot where she had been abandoned could hear her whimpering.

The people who heard Reba’s cries and rescued her from the dumpster took her to a nearby auto repair shop, where employees attempted to reduce her elevated body temperature by rinsing her with cold water. A local animal rescue group rushed to help and took Reba to a veterinary hospital. On the way, Reba suffered convulsions, vomited, and struggled to breathe or move.

Once at the hospital, the medical team began treating Reba’s heat stroke, dehydration and shortness of breath. Reba’s lungs were filled with fluid and she could barely breathe on her own. She needed oxygen, plasma infusions, intravenous fluids and around-the-clock care as she fought for her life, according to Dr. Keith Mihansky, emergency veterinarian and acting medical director of the Veterinary Emergency Group in Henderson, NV.

“It’s one of the hardest things we have to deal with,” Dr. Mihansky said of the pain of treating animals who have suffered severe abuse. “Sometimes you have to watch people treat these innocent animals in such a horrible way.”

Despite Reba’s resilience and the best efforts of the Veterinary Emergency Group to save the sweet English bulldog, Reba unfortunately died of cardiac arrest. The heat stroke and shock caused blood clotting, resulting in Reba’s death.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) is investigating this senseless cruelty.

The Las Vegas community has raised a $25,000 reward for anyone with information on Reba’s case. A Florida animal rights group and an anonymous donor have since joined the cause and doubled the reward to $50,000.

Sign our petition and call on LVMPD Animal Control to continue to thoroughly investigate Reba’s death until the perpetrator is found and arrested and never allowed to harm innocent animals again.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the LVMPD Animal Cruelty Unit at 702-828-3364. If you would like to make an anonymous report, contact Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or through their website.
