BALTIMORE, Maryland. — HBCU women’s basketball coach Edward Davis Jr. will be inducted into the Delaware State University Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024 on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, in Dover, Delaware.

Davis, who is entering his ninth season as head coach of the Morgan State University women’s basketball program, has made significant contributions to Delaware State’s athletic legacy. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on DSU’s Dover campus and will honor Davis and 12 others for their outstanding contributions to the university’s athletic legacy.

In recognition of Davis’ accomplishment, the Hall of Fame class will also be recognized during halftime of the Hornets’ football game against Morgan State at Alumni Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 9. HOF tickets and advertising.

Under Davis’ leadership, the Delaware State Lady Hornets achieved unprecedented success, culminating in the program’s only tournament victory in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) in 2007. That victory secured the Hornets an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament and marked a historic milestone for the HBCU women’s basketball program.

In their NCAA Tournament debut, the 15th-seeded Lady Hornets trailed by just three points (43-40) with nine minutes left before eventually losing to second-seeded Vanderbilt in the 2007 NCAA Tournament.

Davis’ legacy as the winningest coach in Delaware State Lady Hornets history is undeniable. During his 12 seasons at the helm, he amassed an impressive 178 total wins, including a remarkable 121-85 (.587) record in MEAC play. Davis played a crucial role in taking the Delaware State Lady Hornets basketball program to new heights and left an indelible mark on the university’s athletic history.

Edward Davis Jr. is a Washington, D.C. native who was inducted into the West Virginia State Athletics Hall of Fame as a player in October 2008 and the Bowie State Hall of Fame as a coach in May 2014. In September 2017, Davis was inducted into the Hall of Fame for the third time when his 2006–2007 Delaware State women’s team was inducted for winning the 2007 MEAC title.
