Former NFL quarterback Chad Kelly gets his last chance in the CFL after being granted conditional reinstatement.

Kelly was suspended from the CFL in May after a complaint was made by a former assistant coach who worked for Kelly’s CFL team, the Toronto Argonauts. The woman claimed Kelly made unwanted romantic advances toward her and that the quarterback made threats toward her when he rebuffed those advances.

The CFL announced Sunday that Kelly had been reinstated on conditions following the expiration of the nine-game suspension, The Associated Press reported. The league said Kelly’s reinstatement was “a last-chance agreement, provided he continues to meet a number of ongoing conditions.” The CFL did not disclose the conditions but said they “reflect the need for him to continue to demonstrate a commitment to upholding league standards.”

Not long ago, Kelly had become one of the best quarterbacks in the CFL and was even the highest paid. Ultimately, off-field issues are nothing new for Kelly and that’s why he plays in the CFL and not the NFL.

Kelly, the nephew of Buffalo Bills legend Jim Kelly, threw for 4,100 yards with 23 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with the Argonauts during the 2023 season. He has not played since.
