Tears as mother and five children die after eating a local delicacy

Tragedy struck the ancient city of Kano, where six members of a family, including 35-year-old mother Alhaqatu Abdulkarim and her five children, died shortly after eating a local delicacy in Karkari village in Gwarzo Local Government Area of ​​the state.

Sources close to the tragic incident told PUNCH Metro that the victims were taken to Gwarzo General Hospital for treatment of abdominal complications, where they temporarily died during treatment.

In a telephone conversation on Sunday, the municipality’s district head, Yakubu Danazumi, confirmed the tragedy.

Danazumi said: “The incident that led to the deaths of the six family members occurred on Tuesday.

“Two of the children died on the same day, two more died the following day, followed by their mother on Thursday, while the last one died on Friday.

“We have buried the victims according to Islamic rites and will perform the seven-day prayer for all of them on Tuesday.

“The father died about seven months ago, leaving behind his widow and her five children, while the deceased man’s second wife had six children.

“So the woman and her five children died after eating the local delicacy,” Danazumi explained.

The deceased were the 35-year-old mother Alhaqatu Abdulkarim; Usman Abdulkarim (nine years); Fiddausi Abdulkarim (11 years); Hafsa Abdulkarim (seven years); Jamilu Abdulkarim (four years) and Bashari Abdulkarim (19 years).

When contacted by PUNCH Metro On Sunday evening, Kano State Police spokesman Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the incident, saying it occurred in Gwarzo (about 135 kilometers from Kano).

According to him, investigations have been launched to arrest the suspects who sold a local delicacy to the killer.

“Once the investigation is completed, the command will hold a press conference to update journalists,” he said.
