The construction of the air traffic control tower and technical block at Tiruchi International Airport is expected to be completed by March 2025, airport director G. Gopalakrishnan said on Thursday.

Mr. Goapalakrishnan, who was speaking at the Independence Day celebrations at the airport, said the project would be implemented with an investment of Rs 60.75 crore.

The building will consist of an eight-storey ATC block and a four-storey engineering block, he said, adding that this will significantly improve the air traffic services environment and help in managing air traffic precisely and efficiently.

Last year, the year-on-year growth in aircraft movements was 18% and passenger movements were up 15%, Mr Gopalakrishnan said. The recent launch of flight services from Tiruchi to Abu Dhabi by airline IndiGo and the commencement of flights to Bangkok by AirAsia from September 21 will strengthen connectivity to key international destinations, provide more options to passengers and establish Tiruchi International Airport as a major hub in the region, Mr Gopalakrishnan added.
