“The Godfather Part II” star John Aprea dies at the age of 83

John Aprea, the actor known for his leading role in “The Godfather Part II” and his role as John Stamos’ father in “Full House,” has died. He was 83 years old.

The New Jersey-born star died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles on August 5, his manager Will Levine announced, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Aprea started his Hollywood career with his debut role in 1968 in “Bullitt” next to Steve McQueen before One of his most famous roles was in 1974 in “The Godfather – Part II” as the young Tessio.

He appeared in films such as “The Stepford Wives” (1975) and “New Jack City“ and “Ambassador of Fear” from 2004 with leading actor Denzel Washington.

Aprea’s career was also peppered with numerous TV appearances, including “The A-Team”, “Alfred Hitchcock presents”, “The Sopranos”, “Saved by the bell: “The New Class”, “All good things come in threes” and “The Fall Guy”.

Aprea was most recently seen in the British drama series “The Bay” from 2020 to 2023.

In a 2020 interview with The Godfather Part II, Aprea raved about the lasting impression The Godfather Part II had made on him. Interview with Digital Journal.

“‘The Godfather Part II’ stays with you, it’s a part of you. It’s one of the best films ever made,” he said at the time. “Every time it comes on TV I say to myself, ‘I’m not going to watch it again,’ but before I know it I’ve seen every minute of it.”

“Francis Ford Coppola and Mario Puzo wrote an amazing script,” he added.
