Canada’s Drag Race Canada vs. the World Season 2 Episode 5 RECAP: Snatch Game: The Rusical

The remaining queens compete in a challenge that combines two Drag racing Staples and musician Alessia Cara is guest judge …

Last week, the queens read each other to ridicule in the show’s first Reading Battle, which saw the final six compete and poke fun at each other in front of a live audience and panel of judges. Kennedy took first place this week when her quick-witted poke impressed the judges. After Kennedy presented Alexis with the Golden Beaver, the final two queens were Miss Fiercalicious and Eureka, and after a lively backing track, Eureka was sent home. This week, the final five will face a mega challenge that will feature two iconic Drag racing Events in one. Let’s get into it.

This week’s episode begins in the craft room after Eureka’s elimination. Fierce reads her message on the mirror, but feels sorry to send her home since she has become her best friend in the competition. The competition is getting more exciting and many of the queens realize that any of them could be going home next. Over on the couches, the queens tell Fierce that her lipsync was legendary and she should be proud of herself. Now there are two Canadians, two Americans, and one Brit left in the competition and everyone is feeling the pressure as it nears the end. Lemon is very proud of herself for excelling this season and Kennedy tells her that her preparation is obvious and impressive.

It’s a new day and the final five queens feel ready to take on a new challenge. Some of the queens mention for the first time that they actually enjoy the competition. Alexis reminds everyone that this is the last week to use the Golden Beaver, which guarantees a queen’s spot in next week’s finals. After Ru’s video message, Brooke enters the room to tell the queens that the queens in this week’s main challenge will be in Snapping game: The Rusical. The queens must put on their best impression while singing and dancing at the same time, with choreography by Canadian Dancing King Hollywood Jade. The queens head to the blue couches to read through the scripts and listen to the music. They must play themselves and also different characters for the Snatch Game portion of the musical. Fierce says she believes this takes some of the pressure off Snatch Game as it is a bit more structured and some of the other queens feel the same way. They all split the roles but Cheryl and Kennedy want the same role but Cheryl sticks to her gut and will not give up the role.

They break into smaller groups to work on their characters and learn their songs. They have all brought their own characters and must make them compatible with the songs they have been assigned. Brooke comes back into the room and talks to the queens and their characters. On the main stage, the queens work one-on-one with Hollywood Jade on their choreography. During this challenge, the queens must perform light parodies of themselves and imitate a celebrity, so they must really sell it through the musical numbers. Some of the queens are nervous about whether they can pull off the choreography, but they will get it done in the end.

It’s elimination day and the queens feel ready to take on this mega challenge. While they’re putting on makeup, they talk about their support systems at home that give them the strength they need to get through the competition. Alexis tells the other queens that she has no one at home because of her choices. She has kept her peace and is comfortable in her solitude, but she also has her drag family to lean on in times of need. On the main stage, Brooke introduces this week’s judges: Brad, Sarain, and this week’s special guest judge, Alessia Cara.

The Rusical begins and the queens all perform with their own vocals. Hollywood Jade plays the role of Brooke Lynn in the Rusical, which gives the production some impressive choreography. In addition to performing fully produced musical numbers, the queens must improvise their answers as their characters and make the judges laugh. Musical numbers interrupt the actual game, so there is a lot to keep up with, but all of the queens do a good job with the limited practice time. This format also allows the queens to have their own moments in the spotlight, which leaves them no room to hide either. Alexis opened the show with a high-energy number, which Lemon took on with her solo. Fierce tried hard but didn’t quite reach the same level. Kennedy stumbled through her number, forgetting the words to her lyric-heavy song, but her choreography was the most impressive of the bunch and finally Cheryl rounds it all off with her impressive power ballad at the end.

After the Russel, the category on the runway is “The Summer of ’69” and the queens impress in their flower power vintage inspired looks. Brooke congratulates everyone on an impressive challenge and the critique begins with Alexis. Brad tells her she started with a bang and Brooke says her energy was infectious and she was so much fun to watch. Alessia tells her her voice was strong and Sarain says she nailed her choreography but all the judges agree her character Baby Ron DeSantis was too complicated for this particular challenge but they all agree her runway was stunning. Brad tells Lemon her Susan Boyle is pure magic and Sarain says she nailed Susan’s infectious optimism. All the judges love her interpretation of the runway and Brooke says she hit the nail on the head this week. Brooke tells Fierce her decision to play Mother Theresa was a risk that the judges had been talking about all season. Sarain agrees that the character’s look was fabulous, but she wants to see more magic from her. Alessia loved her Habit Snatch, but Brooke says she lacked the fire in her eyes during her performance. Brad tells Kennedy he loved watching her perform, especially her tricks, but Brooke chides her for not knowing all the lyrics to her song. Her role as Tabitha Brown also lacked energy, which all the judges noticed. Sarain says it was a joy to watch her power through the runway this week. Finally, Brad tells Cheryl that she was wonderful this season and her improv skills shined. Sarain tells her that she stayed in character throughout the challenge, which was impressive, and Alessia praises her singing.

Based on the judges’ reviews, Brooke announces that Lemon is the best queen of the week! As runner-up, Cheryl is safe (and also on her way to the finals). Lemon earned the power of the Golden Beaver for the last time this weekend and must save one of the final three from elimination. Backstage, Fiercalicious, Kennedy and Alexis make a case for the Golden Beaver. The queens are all proud of Lemon and Cheryl tells her that she doesn’t envy her power tonight. Kennedy tears up as she talks about how overwhelmed she is to be at the bottom. Alexis cheers her up with some words of affirmation. Fierce says she is proud of her performance this week and would love to represent Canada in the finals. It’s splitting hairs at this point in the competition, so even though there are still a final three this week, all three are technically strong enough to make it to the finals. Kennedy feels that she worked hard to get there and that she deserves the Beaver.

Back on the main stage, Lemon reveals that the queen she chose for the finale with the golden beaver for the last time this season is… Kennedy. This means that Alexis and Fiercalicious are the last two of the week. They sing backing tracks for their lives to How far I will go by Alessia Cara. Both queens want a place in the finals, so these performances are full of heart and passion. After an emotional playback, the judges confer briefly and announce that the fourth queen to advance to the finals is Kennedy Davenport, which sadly means the end of the competition for Canada’s own Miss Fiercalicious and that Lemon is the only Canadian queen still with a chance at the crown.

Next week on Canada against the world: The final four compete in the ultimate lip-sync smackdown… FOR THE CROWN!
